- Positive for MPL W515L/K = Diagnosis of IMF (idiopathic myelofibrosis) or ET (essential thrombocythemia)
- MPL testing is useful for patients with suspected MPD, particularly in patients who are negative for the JAK2 V617F mutation
- MPL W515L/K affects the thrombopoietin receptor, resulting in the continuous activation of the JAK2 kinase and other pathways contributing to the development of IMF or ET
